The owner of a Beckenham dance studio is fundraising to help finance the purchase of tablet computers, so that local disadvantaged children and young people can continue their community classes in performing arts virtually during lockdown.
Lauren Rice, who runs Dance Company Studios on the High Street, is looking to raise a total of £500 to help youngsters gain access to a computer or device who, for a variety of reasons, are otherwise unable to source or pay for them.
Lauren set up the charity, Create Projects Studio, in 2013 with her husband Conan. The charitable organisation works with young carers and local schools and aims to provide guidance and full-time training to young dancers and musicians. This half term they will also be providing free workshops led by current West End performers.
Lauren told News in Beckenham: “We are now creating Zoom classes, but a lot of the younger children do not have a device to take part. Therefore, I am fundraising to buy some tablets for them.
“Also, if anyone has an old tablet or laptop that is hanging about not being used please donate it and I will happily collect. Wishing you all a big thank you in these trying and testing times.”
