A local record shop based at The Mansion in Beckenham Place Park is gearing up for a special musical New Year’s Eve party.
Cigarette Records, which was started by local resident Owain Jones and is one of just a few record shops in South London, will be hosting the event on Tuesday, December 31 following a highly successful debut NYE party last year.
The shop’s creation inside Beckenham Place Park’s Grade II-listed Georgian Mansion in February 2018 was the culmination of more than half a decade of work for Owain. Having started the business selling records online from his bedroom, he is eager to make the most of the grand, new location. This led to launching ‘Parties At The Mansion’ last year, which brings locals together for a boogie under the ornate ceilings and has gained a dedicated following.
Party-goers can expect a range of music including disco, funk and soul and, with past events selling out, a second room focusing on electronic music has been added, whilst still keeping an intimate 300 person capacity. The mansion’s newly opened Basement Bar will also keep party-goers going all night long, offering a range of draughts, cocktails and wines.
The party will also feature original art installations and decorations by the Mansion’s resident artists, Marina Nasso Beard and Daniela Fleckenstein. Marina, a celebrated multi-media artist, will be painting live to the music, with the artworks available for sale afterwards.
Owain said: “It’s so satisfying to see music bring people together who ordinarily might not meet. This really makes the hard work worth it, seeing everyone smiling and dancing all night long. After a run of sell out events we’re excited to see how the parties will develop. Music is what this is all about for me and being able to play records and bring new life to this beautiful mansion is a dream come true.”
