A new art exhibition which explores the complexities of life online as well as ways it can be damaging to our mental health is opening in Beckenham next month.
The exhibition, which is titled Our Future Likes, will run from September 12 to November 16 at the Bethlem Gallery in the Bethlem Royal Hospital on Monks Orchard Road.
Subverting Instagram and other web-based platforms that frequently lead to poor self-esteem, several artworks in this exhibition offer up a variety of creative alternatives. Other artworks explore the complexities of life online as well as ways it can be damaging to our mental health.
On display will be various works of art including photography, graphics, sculpture, writing and more by youngsters from Bethlem Adolescent Unit at South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust as well as other young budding artists from across south London.
A spokesperson said: “As an exploration of the lives we live on and off-line, this exhibition reveals how some artists and young people in our society are taking the lead, creating art that explores how we can make the internet a more positive and contemplative space.”
The Bethlem Gallery is a platform for artists who are current or former patients of South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust, which specialises in mental health.
